on sale at nashbar for $69, secret code yippee got for $60 this one comes a little further on back side of the head than most (skater style), has a good amount of foam, and not a lot of vents. also it is round with not a lot of things to catch on. It also fit well.
Helmets are funny, they can't advertise that they are safe, too hard to defend in court. They can only advertise how many vents, how light, and how low profile they are. All things that remove foam and compromise impact absorption. Was looking at road helmets, they are particularly suspect. Tip of the day, If your helmet is older than 5 years, get a new one.

I've always heard 3 years. I'm also thinking about getting a new mountain helmet since mine does not cover the back of my head very well...
this one is pretty good it is a gyro xen. I got a med am usually a large in helmets, may pay to try it on. 3 years is probably right.
other fuller coverage i have seen is pro tec and fox. doesnt come down much lower than rest of helmets, maby an extra inch.
the other thing that i may look at me is one of those heavy seatpost that you can lower on the fly via a switch on handlebars. addds 1/2 pd, but may have slowed/stopped my endo if i would have had seat down. tried link you sent, no luck.
I think I'm going to pick me up a Giro Hex. I was looking at my current helmet in the mirror and it really doesn't touch the back of my head at all. I'd go Pro-Tec but they're hot as all get out.
You mean a seatpost like a Crank Bros Joplin? Those can be pretty spendy (they're hydraulic), but I believe Specialized makes a cable one that's a lot cheaper.

The Crank Bros is cool because it doesn't have preset positions, you can adjust it like an office chair. And looks to cost less than the Specialized. I know someone makes a cheap spring-loaded one, I just can't seem to remember who it is.

Ooooh. I'm jealous of your Xen. I'm too cheap for one of those, and ended up with the Hex.
James and I both ride Gravity Droppers and love them. They do require some routine maintenance from time to time, but otherwise are fantastic. Check out the new one Scott bought too - supposed to be super nice too.

I had a Giro Xen. It went back to REI after the plastic straps that connect to ratchet in the back broke. They are very thin. I got a Fox helmet to replace it (cloth straps). Hopefully you won't have the same problem. Other than that, the helmet fit great. As for the dropping seat post, I guess ridicule is the most sincere form of flattery as I seem to recall you poo pooing the seat post on each ride. Really poo pooing it! I really like the post but I don't think all the bugs have been worked out yet. Broke one lever, one seat clamp, and one hydraulic assembly (all on separate occasions). They've warrantied everything however it's still kind of a pain dealing with broken parts.
